Waupun Tournament:

 

Baraboo Thunder U-12 Girls Fastpitch Softball traveled to Waupun to play in the Waupun 4-Bagger on May 31 picking up victories in both of their games.  In the first game, the Thunder took care of business quickly and efficiently in only 4 innings over the squad from Columbus 11 – 0.  Jesse Carignan struck out 9 Columbus hitters out of 12 total outs.  In the second game, Baraboo pasted the home team, Waupun, 16-7 in 5 innings.  Jesse Carignan struck out 6 hitters in 3 innings while Kathryn Vander Schaaf pitched 2 innings in relief.

 

Offensive highlights for the day included Justine Neuman picking up 2 hits including a triple, Taylor Johnson with 2 hits including a double, and Kaylee Roberts and Kathryn Vander Schaaf each with 2 hits.  Shelby Gerkin added a double, while Chloe Gruber led the team with 4 walks.   Amy Schlender tallied a hit and scored a run while Marina Mullen and Kellie Kuschman scored twice.  Jesse Carignan, Kelsey Brown and Hannah Gruber all scored 3 times while Kaitlyn Stieve crossed the plate 4 times.

 

The Baraboo Thunder have also opened South Central League Play defeating Middleton Red on their home diamond last week.  South Central League play continues this week and then the Thunder will be at the Baraboo Big Top Blowout home Tournament the weekend of June 13 – 15 at Pierce Park.

 

 

Baraboo Big Top Blowout:

 

Baraboo Thunder U-12 Girls Fastpitch Softball successfully defended their home Baraboo Big Top Blowout Tournament on June 14 & 15 winning all 4 games they played.   In the first game, the Thunder blasted the Waukesha Firebirds 12-0.  Jesse Carignan did not allow a hit and struck out 6 while walking 4.  The second game against the Waukesha Blazers was closer, with the Thunder coming out on top 12 – 6.  Carignan and Kathryn Vander Schaaf handled the pitching duties again, not allowing a hit while giving up 8 walks and hitting 6 batters.    The best game of the tournament was the 3rd game in which the Thunder outlasted the Columbus Xplozion 5 -2.  Carignan handled the pitching duties again striking out 11 while walking only 4 and allowing only 2 hits.    The final game on Sunday was an exhibition game again against the Waukesha Firebirds, with Baraboo pulling out a last inning victory, 9 – 8.  Carignan and Vander Schaaf again handled the pitching duties striking out 8 and allowing 6 hits.

 

Offensive highlights for the tourney included Carignan with 4 hits, Kaitlin Stieve and Hannah Gruber with 3 hits and Kelsey Brown, Taylor Johnson, Vander Schaaf and Shelby Gerkin all with 2 hits.  Kelsey Brown led the team with 5 walks, while Amy Schlender walked 4 times and Marina Mullen and Kaylee Roberts each walked 3 times.  Carignan scored 6 times, Amy Schlender and Brown 5 times, Stieve 4 times, Johnson 3 times and Justine Neuman, Karissa Fritsch and Mullen, Gruber, Vander Schaaf, Roberts and Gerkin each crossed the plate twice.

 

The Thunder U-12 team continues their undefeated season in league play and will participate in the Game Day USA tournament to be held in Wisconsin Dells on June 27-29.
