The Wisconsin Fastpitch
Softball Coaches Association held their annual Senior All Star Series June 9-10
at Zenoff Park
in Stevens Point. Baraboo
High School’s Tiffany
Stanek was named as a pitcher and Danielle Vander Schaaf was named as a utility
player to the Division 1 Black team. Players are nominated for this recognition by
their head coach and then selected by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches
Association. They were selected for this
honor along with 33 other seniors from Division 1 teams across Wisconsin.
After attending practice
Monday afternoon and being recognized at a banquet Monday night, the two
Baraboo seniors played two games on Tuesday against the other two Division 1
teams. The Black team, on which Stanek
and Vander Schaaf played, ended the day with the best record, tying their first
game against the White team 5-5 and winning the second game 3-2 against the Red
team.
The Baraboo seniors
represented their school well in the Senior All Star Series. Both Baraboo players rotated through the
outfield in the first game while Stanek pitched and Vander Schaaf played first
base in the second. In that second game,
Stanek had her best stuff pitching, striking out 7 of the State’s best hitters
while giving up only two hits, with both hits coming in the last inning
spoiling her bid at a no-hitter. Vander
Schaaf added most of the offense in that game also, going 2-2 with a double and
a single, and scoring 2 of the 3 Black team runs. Vander Schaaf said "Baraboo was
fortunate enough to have two players chosen to participate. Tiff and I
had a lot of fun and learned some things in the process. It was an amazing
experience." Stanek added: "I
had an awesome time. It was incredible to be able to play with some of
the best players in the state. I felt very
honored to have been chosen."
